Special Applications of Bearings ─ Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, and Other Projects
Structural bearings are typical in bridge construction. However, they are also used in some very large or unusual structures to permit the transmission of loads, rotations and movements. One such example is the new Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Atlanta, where Goodco Z-Tech supplied 43 pot bearings, the biggest of which could transfer a load of more than 40 000 kN. This presentation will discuss some of the challenges encountered in the design of these bearings.

Case Study of Modular Expansion Joint for Two Curved Bridges on a Common Abutment
Turcot interchange, in Montréal, Canada, is at the intersection of three major highways. It is a very complex network of structures that is currently being rebuilt, without the possibility of closing all lanes at once. Two of these structures, located on a common abutment, have different radius of curvature, length, and movement capacity, which created a challenge for the design of the expansion joint system. This presentation will discuss the technical challenges and solutions from the joint manufacturer’s point of view.
