The 2016 Symposium of Heavy Movable Structures, Inc. (HMS) will take place from September 19 – 22, 2016 in Tampa, Florida. During this event, Éric Lévesque, Project Services Manager for Canam-Bridges will present a case study titled Hastings Swing Bridge-Orthotropic Steel Deck. The lecture will take place on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. and 10:35 a.m.
The superstructure of the Hastings swing bridge, a small bridge in Hastings, Ontario, has been replaced recently. The replacement involved interesting challenges. In fact, the weight of the new superstructure and new deck had to be compatible with the existing mechanical and electrical element in the substructure. Also, the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge had to be done in a reduced schedule. The presentation intends to present a success of using an orthotropic steel deck for a rehabilitation of a movable bridge.
Heavy Movable Structures, Inc. is a not-for-profit technical organization of volunteers focusing on the heavy civil facilities utilized by or for the public benefit, with emphasis on, but not limited to, movable bridges.
