Canam-Bridges will fabricate steel components for the replacement of the Commonwealth Avenue overpass that spans Interstate 90 in Boston. Once completed, the new structure will have a greater capacity.
The contract to fabricate 1,950 tons of steel components for the 450-ft. (137 m) overpass is for Walsh Construction, a long-time partner of Canam-Bridges, and is being carried out as a design-build project. The components will be fabricated, painted and metallized at the Canam Group plant in Claremont, New Hampshire, beginning in December 2015 while deliveries will be made between May 2016 and May 2017. The new overpass is slated to open in September 2017.
